Coding Specialist

Wood County Hospital is accepting applications for a Full Time (40 hours per week) Coding Specialist. This position is a day shift position. The Coding Specialist codes inpatient, 23 hour, outpatient surgery, and emergency department records to support statistics, research, education, and reimbursement.

Minimum Education:

  • Graduate of an American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) accredited program for health information technicians or health information administrators

Minimum Certification:

  • American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) recognized national examination leading to the achievement of an AAPC professional credential of Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Coder – Outpatient Hospital (CPC-H) 

Preferred Certification:

  • successful completion of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) recognized national examination leading to the achievement of an AHIMA professional credential of Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) strongly preferred

Required Experience:

  • At least one year of work experience in a healthcare setting

Preferred Experience:

  • previous hospital coding experience, strongly preferred
  • good working of knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT

  • ability to work flexible hours

  • ability to work extra hours to meet deadlines
