Unit Supervisor - Surgery

Wood County Hospital is now accepting applications for a Supervisor in our Surgery department. The Surgery Supervisor serves as the secondary leadership for the department/unit’s daily operations and provides 24/7 oversight in collaboration with the Department Director.   Assists with patient care, either directly or indirectly.  Demonstrates critical thinking/clinical reasoning to ensure the delivery of safe, quality, timely, compassionate, and cost-effective care to the patient populations served by the department/unit. 

Job Duties:

  • Integrates best practices in the delivery of care.
  • Serves/acts as a resource based on current standards of nursing care, including auditing of patient medical records for documentation and risk management issues.
  • Provides assistance for clinical decisions when Department Director is unavailable.
  • Supports the mission, values, and vision of the organization.
  • Assists with the implementation of the organization and division strategic plans at the department/unit level, including integrating/aligning the department/unit goals, objectives, and initiatives with those of the organization; as well as educating staff on the importance of their role in helping with achievement.
  • Teaches, coaches, and mentors staff on perioperative practice.
  • Assists in addressing unplanned unit staffing needs by working variable hours/shifts or coordinating coverage with other units.

Shift Details:

Hours: Full Time Exempt, 40 hours per week

Shift: Day Shift


Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Education:            

  • Graduate from an accredited program for nursing education, Bachelor's Degree in Nursing(BSN) required OR must be currently enrolled with the expected graduation within 2 years of hire.

Minimum Certification:        

  • Licensed RN in the state of Ohio.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.

Preferred Certification:        

  • CNOR certification preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Previous experience in surgery including Charge RN and/or Supervisor required.
