Laboratory Operations Manager

Laboratory - Bowling Green, OH - Full Time

Wood County Hospital is currently searching for a full time Operations Manager for the Laboratory.  The Operations Manager oversees day-to-day operations of the Laboratory. Duties may include, but are not limited to coordinating the scheduling of technical personnel, approving payroll and time off, conducting performance evaluations, evaluating competency, providing educational opportunities, serving as a technical resource, and directing the work flow. Works collaboratively with fellow highly skilled professionals to produce quality and timely Laboratory results. Works closely with the Laboratory leadership team to ensure continuity of overall lab operations.

Job Duties:

  • Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the department including providing work direction, expertise, and guidance to Laboratory personnel. Oversees the daily clinical laboratory testing, evaluation of results, and the proficiency of testing
  • Meets all expectations of a medical laboratory scientist/technologist.
  • Knowledgeable in all areas of the laboratory. Is able to support Section Supervisors with instrumentation, trouble shooting, CAP standards, CLIA regulations, quality, etc.
  • Ensures that department meets all CAP standards and CLIA regulations; Assists with preparation and completion of biennial accreditation inspections and follow-up. Participates in off-site inspections as assigned.
  • In collaboration with the Administrative and Medical Directors, oversees Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement, and Proficiency Testing of all clinical areas. Assures necessary investigation, follow-up, and documentation.
  • Oversees policies and procedures prepared by section supervisors and assures they are maintained, reviewed, or updated at least every two years. Initiates or approves new policies/procedures as indicated.
  • Has direct oversight for all section supervisors, phlebotomy and support staff, including those off-site.
  • In partnership with the Administrative Director, interviews, hires, and coordinates competency training for laboratory employees and students.
  • Conducts performance appraisals and any needed corrective actions for laboratory staff, using feedback from the Section Supervisors, Admin Director, and Medical Director. Consults with Human Resources as needed for counseling events.
  • Serves as a technical resource for staff and providers. Available to staff for questions after hours.
  • Schedules staff in such a way that regular work shifts, vacations, and other time off are adequately covered at all time. Prepares schedules well in advance whenever possible. Approves payroll and time off requests.
  • Serves as a communication link between the department personnel and Laboratory leadership. 

     

Shift Details:

Hours: Full time, 40 hours/week

Shift: Day Shift, 8:30am - 5:00pm

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification required

Minimum License/Certification:
*For Medical Technologists who obtained initial ASCP certification after January 1, 2004, participation in the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) is required*

Minimum Experience:

  • At least 5 (five) years of progressive laboratory leadership required, including previous supervisory experience.
